Thanksgiving orphan dinners

Several Calgary pubs are hosting Thanksgiving orphan dinners this weekend for those who might not be able to get home for a turkey dinner, wherever “home” might be. Three different places were brought to my attention today as I tried to hunt them down.

The Ship and Anchor, one of the classic venues for orphan dinners both at Thanksgiving and at Christmas, will be hosting on both Sunday and Monday. For a very reasonable $14.95, you’ll get yourself a healthy portion of Turducken, along with stuffing, veggies, mashed and gravy. And, of course, they’ll have a whackload of pints to help you wash down that turducken.

O’Sullivan’s Restaurant and Bar will have a turkey dinner on Sunday night from 4:00 pm to 10:00 pm. The price again is $14.95 and includes “all the trimmings” and dessert.

Another choice along 17th Avenue is National Beer Hall. They’ll be serving up a turkey dinner for $35 on Sunday, and that includes a pint of Alleykat Octoberfest Ale.

Whatever your circumstance, if you’re not able to make it home for Thanksgiving, do be sure to check out one of these fine establishments. I’m sure they’ll make you part of their extended family and show you one heck of a good party. Happy Thanksgiving!
